“She should have died hereafter;
There would have been a time for such a word.
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
To the last syllable of recorded time,

The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”

In this Extract from Macbeth Act 5, Scene 2 Macbeth is saying that he is upset because he has just lost his wife and essentially everything that he has done for so far, Killing Duncan, becoming King, having one of his best friends killed by a group of murderers, Macbeth has done for his Lady Macbeth. And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death.

Shakespeare uses Iambic Pentameter to show Macbeth’s mind starting to deteriorate seeing as at the start of play he was a man of a high status and characters in Shakespeare, who are of a high status or have an important job, normally talk with Iambic Pentameter. In this extract of him speaking he is starting to speak with it and lose and then start speaking with it which is an example of his mental state starting to break down.

“Life’s but a walking shadow” In this quote Macbeth is personifying life and saying that after she died
